What Is EFT and How Can It Help?
Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT, is a universal healing tool that can provide impressive results for physical, emotional, and performance issues. EFT is sometimes referred to as emotional acupuncture, but without the needles. It uses gentle tapping on specific points on your body to help you release stuck emotions, improve the clarity of your mind and aids the healing of physical symptoms. EFT is a gentle process which works quickly and creates permanent results.
The Body’s Meridian System
Around 5,000 years ago the Chinese discovered a system of subtle energy circuits, called meridians, which run through the body. Understanding how these meridians work is the foundation of acupuncture and acupressure along with a variety of other healing approaches. When electrical signals flow freely along the meridians and the energy is in balance, the mind experiences calm and the body functions healthily.
Disruptions to the body’s energy system cause disturbances to this natural state of balance and harmony. EFT uses gentle tapping on certain meridian points to balance out the disturbances and so restore the mind and body to both emotional and physical wellbeing.
Who better to explain what EFT is, and how it can help, than it’s founder Gary Craig. Here’s how he summed it up to me during a recent conversation:
An Innovation In The Area of Therapy
“EFT is an innovation in the area of therapy. It’s purpose is to take the angers, the griefs, the guilts, the traumas that conventional psychotherapy has tended to take weeks, months and years and maybe not get very far with that.
We’ve been able to do that by borrowing from the acupuncture meridian system and do the job that would typically take weeks, months and years in minutes or hours or something like that. I mean we’ve really shortened it down and got the job done in a wide variety of cases, almost everything so to speak.
And it really gets very astonishing for people, and it involves tuning in to an issue, like we talked about a height phobia earlier, like the fear of heights for example, and while you’re doing that you’re tapping with your fingertips, you’re stimulating certain meridians on your body to, to balance things out.
The idea being when you’re having these angers, fears and whatever, these meridians that run through the body have a short circuit and they go Zzzzzzt like that, and that’s what you’re really feeling. And so by tapping on these various points sending energy down them it tends to straighten them out, balance them.
Properly done you couldn’t get upset about that issue if you tried. Now properly done is a form of art, I mean there are people who do this in a very mechanical sort of “band aid” way and get a lot done. And there are people who really dig into the in-trails of this, into the details of it, and get a lot more done a lot deeper, so it depends on where people want to go.”
Treating The Real Cause Of The Problem
Rather than treating painful or negative past experiences and memories as the cause of our problems, EFT targets the real cause which is the body’s response to the thought, belief or memory. Recognising the disruption in the body’s energy system as the real cause of the problem and by directly addressing the disruption through tapping, we get impressive results.
How EFT Can Help You
Wherever you’re experiencing a lack of wellbeing, EFT can help you discover a sense of balance, increased personal peace and freedom. If you already know that you have many incidents in your past that are problematic, feel assured, we won’t have to deal with each and every one of them. Many of your issues have a common thread to them and what we find is that when we’ve taken care of your response to a significant number of them, the others collapse too.
EFT Works For Both Emotional And Physical Issues
Medical science accepts that physical symptoms are can be caused or at least aggravated by underlying emotional issues. This isn’t always so, and I’ll always recommend you visit a qualified health practitioner, but the medical profession agrees whole heartedly that emotional stress suppresses the bodies natural capacity to heal.
By dealing directly with the energetic imbalances that cause stress and anxiety, EFT helps the body to heal naturally.
If you’re looking for a more detailed explanation of EFT, I recommend clicking through to Gary’s website emofree.com where you’ll find a free EFT Tutorial which explains everything from the basics of “how to tap” all the way through to some of the more refined aspects of the practice. You can access the tutorial by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page “Official EFT – visit tutorial now”.
I’ve assembled some EFT videos for you which can be accessed here. Video is an excellent way to learn more about EFT and you can even use it to work on yourself at home. As useful as video is, however, I think it’s fair to point out that not everyone uploading EFT videos online is offering the same quality of information.
A Note Of Warning!
If you do a quick search online, you’ll find many so called ‘experts’ talking about and offering EFT demonstrations. While it must be assumed all of this material is well intentioned please be aware that not everyone’s teaching EFT at the level of an art form.
Many online sources of information are coming at the subject from a mechanical point of view and may also be misrepresenting EFT altogether. So, although you may undoubtably find some excellent resources elsewhere, I recommend you go straight to the ‘source’ and learn from it’s founder Gary Craig and his daughter Tina on their Official EFT website emofree.com where you’ll learn Gold Standard EFT. Here’s the link again.
